Music Box: Tanlines

So there’s this fishing line. And it’s in the water. And there’s this fish that comes swimming around. It sees the worm on the hook and thinks to itself, “hmm… I’ll just have a little nibble and see what it tastes like.” Before the fish knew it, it was completely latched on to the hook and a helpless prisoner…and that’s how I felt with this band.

Tanlines is a duo from New York with a very interesting pop/experimental sound. They rely heavily on the looping of sounds but they do it in such a simple and tasteful manner that it draws you in. Sometimes flowery and sometimes sythn-rock and sometimes this power-pop sound, their album is full of gems that sound like tropical or afro-beats. The guitarist/vocalist, Eric Emm, has such a distinct accent and rasp/timbre to his singing which makes listening to the entire album quite a treat…like a delicious worm on a hook.

Here’s a couple of songs:

Awesome.

I can’t get enough of this band! Here’s the album info and you can download “Brothers” for free on their site.

Suggested Music:

The first aritist popped onto my mp3 playlist randomly a couple weeks ago and I completely forgot about this guy! Yoav was going to be one of the first Music Box artists that I featured but he got lost into the mix. Here’s a trippy music video:

Triptastic.

The second artist has been featured already but has just recently released their second album. JONQUIL is probably the best band out there that nobody knows about! I’m guessing sometime towards the end of the year, people will slowly be catching on just like they did with previous Music Box artists Of Monsters and Men and The Head and The Heart. Silky smoothy vocals, amazing musicianship, and excellent stitching of all the parts together… you can’t ask for much more than that.

I could listen to this all day.

Gaaaaah! So good that it makes my typing look like I’m a 16 year old teen groupie!!

Happy Good Friday. Have a great weekend everybody.
