Music Box: French Films

with 2 comments

This is the time of year when I am suffering from San Diego winter depression…cold surf, sub-60s daytime temperatures, mornings with frost on the grass and requiring a sweater in the morning when I leave for work. This is a really tough time for people living in San Diego and I feel it is my duty to cheer them up.

The past bands that I’ve introduced around this time of year have been Vampire Weekend, Jonquil and something else that I can’t remember, but this year is great too. French Films is a band from Helsinki, Finland and they are some great surf pop rock material. I see more and more of these surf rock bands appearing and I love it. The more the merrier. If you took the style of The Drums and the vocals from The Editors lead singer and threw them into a blender, you’d get a delicious French Films smoothie.

Here, give it a taste:

Love it?

Here drink more:

Have you had enough?

Go ahead and check out their album, Imaginary Future, you won’t regret it.

Artist: French Films
Albums: Imaginary Future
Website: I couldn’t find it =(

Suggested Music:

Artist: The Albertans
Albums: New Age

Slightly creepy…but fantastic nonetheless.

Artist: The Whitest Boy Alive
Yes, the band name is The Whitest Boy Alive. And yes, it’s that dude from Kings of Convenience (and no it’s not the Napoleon Dynamite guy). I can’t tell you how extremely excited and happy I was to hear about this band. I have KOC’s first two albums and enjoyed them tremendously. Here’s a couple of rad songs.

It may feel weird to search for “Burning Whitest Boy Alive” on youtube, but you’ll be glad you did:

It’s so nice we’ll do it twice:

So Amazing!

Here’s one of my favorite songs from Kings of Convenience:

Man…brings back good old college days. I meant the music. Not meeting chicks and …nevermind. And those little girls are pretty cute too. Not in that way you creep.

Anyway, until next time. Cheers!
