Music Box: Jonquil

with one comment

My Trop-Rock obsession grows.

With summer just around the corner, this band ushers in the warmth and fun and joy and liveliness of all things happy and San Diego.

Jonquil is another UK band (another brilliant Oxford band anybody?) and released their One Hundred Suns EP last November 2010. I have been listening to these guys since late February but have painfully postponed their Music Box debut until summer was nearer. Their sound is very similar to Vampire Weekend which banks on heavy vocal melodies and super catchy beats and rhythms. The afro-pop style (I call it trop-rock because it sounds better and I’m cool like that) mixed with their dreamy vocals is a combination that’s hard to beat but difficult to master…but I think they did a great job in this album and makes you want to throw on a tropical shirt and jump on a fake donkey…oh wait that’s their album cover.

Here, I’ll let their music do the talking.

And here’s a second awesome song:

And there you go, another awesome band perfect for the summer that’s just around the corner.

Artist: Jonquil
Album: One Hundred Suns EP

Suggested Music:

The Strokes – Angles

There is simply too much awesome going on in this album…

And for dessert, here’s a song by Los Campesinos! The only way to listen to this is to put it up to 11!

  1. […] The second artist has been featured already but has just recently released their second album. JONQUIL is probably the best band out there that nobody knows about! I’m guessing sometime towards the end of the year, people will slowly be catching on just like they did with previous Music Box artists Of Monsters and Men and The Head and The Heart. Silky smoothy vocals, amazing musicianship, and excellent stitching of all the parts together… you can’t ask for much more than that. […]
