Music Box: Tango In The Attic

with one comment

If you like summertime, goofy accents and Vampire Weekend, boy do I have a band for you…

This band formed a couple years back and released their album Bank Place Locomotive Society last July 2010. I started listening to these guys heavily this past month for whatever reason… but I am discovering a new/weird trend. Every year around the end of January to early March, I need some kind of uplifting summer-pop groove tunes to keep me going through our brutal San Diego winter season. Previous years, bands like  Surfer Blood and Vampire Weekend have kept me company through these tough times.

Tango In The Attic is a group from Scotland and while many of their songs may sound similar the first time through, they are actually filled with lots of creative riffs, bridges and transitions if you’re patient enough to listen through (and it’s well worth it!). The band relies heavily on this simple creativity and smooth vocals which keep things really tight and edgy.

Check out their songs: One Step Away, Jackanory, Blunderground

After listening through a couple times, you can tell these guys have a long way to go before they reach their full potential but they’re still fun and enjoyable to listen to. At times it seems as if they’re staying on the safe side with their sound…but again this is their debut album and I’ll definitely be keeping close tabs on them when they release their sophomore album.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy them. I had massive anxiety attacks all month on which band I should feature on Music Box for this month. I probably revisited over ten bands and found over twenty new bands this month. What have I got myself into?
